Escape to Margaritaville may have closed on Broadway, but Parrotheads will still have something to enjoy in New York. The city’s first Margaritaville resort appears well on track to meet its goal of a late 2020 opening. The site at 560 Seventh Avenue was touch and go for a while, but official signage is up on the site and the planned 29-story building is well off the ground.
Last April, CityRealty reported that hotel amenities are expected to include a restaurant and bar in addition to a gym and pool. However, Travel Pulse announced in February that the hotel will have not one restaurant but five. The poolside LandShark Bar & Grill will offer indoor and outdoor seating, an outdoor pool, and a FlowRider wave machine that will allow for “surfing” with Times Square views. The rooftop 5 O’Clock Somewhere bar will enjoy spectacular skyline views. Additional offerings will include a Margaritaville restaurant and new concept The Chill Bar, to be located on the fifth floor.
The Margaritaville resort is taking shape in an especially active area. Earlier this year, a 43-story Edition hotel with a modern-day cabaret, fusion restaurant, and outdoor terrace opened up the street at 701 Seventh Avenue. Further north, Tribeach Holdings is at the helm of a 27-story hotel rising at 145-155 West 47th Street. Fans of a different type of music will appreciate the Hard Rock Hotel under construction at 159 West 48th Street.
