Ten years after the Parkway Hospital shuttered, its transformation from healthcare to housing is officially underway. Manhattan-based developer Jasper Venture Group has worked closely with local elected officials on the conversion since 2016 (h/t Crain's), and the site at 70-35 113th Street was officially entered into the city's public review process with an environmental assessment statement.
If everything is approved, the former hospital will gain two stories, be restored from its current state of deterioration, and ultimately hold 135 units of affordable housing, a fraction of which will be reserved for senior citizens. Jasper also wants to build a new, 14-story building with 216 market-rate apartments elsewhere on the site. Condos were initially planned, but that project fell through and no buyer moved forward in a 2015 sale.
