Brooklyn's 800 Broadway is an intact Romanesque Revival building currently home to a money order service at its ground floor. However, bigger plans are in store for the pint-size relic dating back to the turn of the 19th century. Recently approved plans filed by Brooklyn-based Philip Toscano Architects show that the three-story building will expand to five. The ground floor will be spruced up for new retailers and the second through fifth floors will be devoted to office space. A conceptual rendering posted on the retail leasing website of RKF shows the topper will sport a distinct, dark facade somewhat incongruous of the light brick building below. It also appears that each of the commercial floors will have their own terrace.
The updated building will rise on a bustling Bushwick corner close to Woodhull Medical Center, under the Broadway elevated train line, and steps away from its Flushing Avenue stop serving the J, M, and Z lines. A Starbucks is opening nearby at 774 Broadway, and other close retailers include Walgreens, Planet Fitness, Foot Locker, and H&R Block.
