From December 3-9, 2024, just over 200 condo, co-op, condop, and townhouse listings in core New York City areas experienced price reductions. These included 49 East 80th Street, an Art Deco-style townhouse on the Upper East Side once owned by EGOT-winning singer/actress Barbra Streisand.

Following rejections from some of New York's most discerning co-op boards, Ms. Streisand bought the house for $420,000 in 1970, a year after her historic tie with Katharine Hepburn for Best Actress at the Academy Awards. However, she never occupied the house, having moved to California that same year and opting to hold onto an apartment at The Ardsley on Central Park West. She sold it two years later; more recently, it came on the market for $17.95 million in June 2024. A price reduction last week brings it down to $16,875,000.

Almost directly to the west of the townhouse, two five-bedroom units at The Belnord were among the apartments that experienced price reductions last week. The full-block complex with a beautifully landscaped center courtyard was converted from rentals to condos in 2019, two years before it shot to worldwide prominence when it was used for exteriors on Emmy Award-winning show Only Murders in the Building. Offscreen, it has attracted the likes of lifestyle mogul Martha Stewart and political powerhouse Howard Wolfson. The building is reportedly over 80% sold.
