If looking directly into the solar eclipse didn't blind you, maybe this will do the trick: The king of questionable taste, Gene Kaufman has drawn up another hotel for the Garment District at 525 Eighth Avenue. Under the patronage of hotelier Sam Chang, the building will have 261 keys along 26 floors. Excavation work is underway and the rendering posted at the site shows an amateurish affair that's just not worth describing.
Per The Real Deal, Sam Chang’s McSam Hotel Group closed on a 99-year lease of the property in 2016 for $27.1 million. Apparently, the developer was unable to acquire the neighboring corner lot which holds a one-floor T-Mobile store.
The pile will be set back from the street and its efficiently identical layouts will offer 11 rooms per floor. Hotel amenities are to include a fitness center, meeting room, a lounge with outdoor seating, bicycle storage and a rooftop bar on the 24th floor.
