Today we have the reveal for a long-delayed new development at 420 Tompkins Avenue, the former site of the Weinstein Hardware store in Bedford-Stuyvesant. CS Management bought the property from Warren Weinstein for $1.065 million in 2006 and permits for a 6-story, 44-unit residential project were filed in 2013. After the foundation and first floor were constructed in 2015, very little happened, according to Brownstoner.
Well, a change in ownership seemed to have moved things along. Tompkins 420 Realty LLC purchased it for $8.75 million last year and it has since grown to its full height of 69 feet. Google street view photos show the topped out structure was receiving its facade this past August. The design has also (thankfully) changed thanks to StudiosC, who have debuted fresh exterior and interior renderings of the project on their website.

The two-toned building will have "a different take on traditional brick work" with a unique fenestration pattern and projecting windows balconies. Charles Mallea is the architect of record.
Permits call for 29,600 square feet of residential space, meaning the units will be very rental-sized at an average of 672 square feet. Amenities will include a laundry, exercise, recreation and game room in the cellar, a ground-floor lounge, enclosed bike parking, and outdoor car parking spaces.

From the looks of it, interiors will complement the exterior with warm-colored cabinetry and gunmetal grey walls in the lobby and counters in the kitchen.
