In recent years, some of Brooklyn’s biggest residential standouts have been residential conversions of industrial buildings. Williamsburg’s Dime Savings Bank, designed by Helmle & Huberty, is now The Dime, a luxury rental building. In the heart of Greenpoint, boutique condominium Bath Haus is named in honor of its previous incarnation as a turn-of-the-century public bath house. And also in the Greenpoint Historic District, sales have launched at 1080 Lorimer Street, the condo conversion of the office annex at Greenpoint Savings Bank.
Current availabilities include a one-bedroom for $995K, two-bedrooms from $1.3 million, and a three-bedroom for $2.15 million. At an average price of $1,401 per square foot, the building comes in well above the Greenpoint average of $1,167 per square foot (per CityRealty data).

“Our goal for 1080 Lorimer was to preserve the history of the building while creating a one-of-a-kind residence that can’t be found anywhere else in the city” - Martin Nussbaum, Founder, State Property Group
The Neoclassical Greenpoint Savings Bank was designed in 1906 by Helmle & Huberty, and is described as a “temple” and a “fortress” in its neighborhood. The office annex was completed in 1953; over 60 years later, architecture firm PKSB was at the helm of a thoughtful redesign that included a complete facade replacement, horizontal expansion, and rooftop addition. The Landmarks Preservation Commission unanimously approved the project in May 2016.
All 29 apartments feature oversized casement windows, high ceilings, white oak flooring, central heating and cooling, and USB outlets. The kitchens include natural stone countertops, custom cabinetry, Bosch appliances, Hansgrohe fixtures, and PABLO light fixtures. All baths have chevron and mosaic tile accents, custom vanities, and Waterworks fixtures; select units have deep soaking tubs.
The lounge at 1080 Lorimer Street offers residents a front-row view of the fish scale-shingled dome topping the bank building. Additional amenities include video doorman service, a package room, private storage, a bike room, and a fitness center.
Residents also enjoy a prime Greenpoint location near the Michelin-starred Oxomoco, popular restaurants and boutiques (vintage boutique Beacon’s Closet and WORD bookstore among them), and the Greenpoint Terminal Gallery. Public transportation options include the Greenpoint Avenue G train, the Bedford Avenue L train, the India Street/Greenpoint Terminal ferry stop, CitiBike stops, and Revel moped.
