Nearly 100 years after it was constructed, and more than four years after it closed its doors amidst lockdown, the Upper East Side’s historic Surrey Hotel is coming back in a blaze of glory. The Surrey, a Corinthia Hotel is accepting reservations from $1,400/night starting October 15, and sales have launched on The Surrey Residences, the residential component on top of the hotel rooms and suites.
Two of the 14 units, including a massive combination unit with a $28 million asking price, have already entered contract. Remaining public availabilities start at $11 million for two-bedrooms and $15.95 million. A penthouse with a 2,346-square-foot private terrace has a $35 million offering price, but it has not yet come on the market. All units will start on the 11th floor to allow for beautiful Upper East Side views, and there will be no more than three units per floor.
The first floor plans depict spacious apartments with expansive proportions, gracious foyers, galleries with generous wall space, and eat-in kitchens. Triple exposures promise abundant natural light, and interiors are set to feature Calacatta Gold marble in the foyers and white oak flooring in a chevron pattern throughout.
The floor plans show ultra-private primary suites with walk-in closets and en suite baths with dual vanities, separate showers, and soaking tubs. All secondary bedrooms will have en suite bths, and there are powder rooms in the foyers. Additional features will include side-by-side washer and dryer, dedicated audio/visual technology closet, and dedicated concierge closet for secure deliveries.

Buyers of The Surrey Residences will be able to choose their own interior design packages with furniture and decor from The Invisible Collection. They will also enjoy access to the hotel’s amenities and services. Italian restaurant Casa Tua will replace Cafe Boulud as the hotel’s restaurant, and residents will enjoy access to the public restaurant as well as the members’ club, reportedly its largest to date. The jewel-box spa features a sauna, steam room, salt tepidarium relaxation room, and two treatment rooms for facials and massages using Sisley Paris products. Additionally, a fitness center by AMP offers access to an outdoor yoga patio.
Another great perk of The Surrey Residences is an address in a rarefied section of the Upper East Side. Central Park is at one end of the block, and designer shopping on Madison Avenue is at the other. It is also located in excellent proximity to fine dining restaurants as well as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Neue Galerie.
The reopening and sales launch represent the latest chapter for The Surrey. The historic hotel dates back to 1926, when it was built by acclaimed architecture firm Schwartz & Gross. Its clientele included the likes of President John F. Kennedy and Academy Award-winning actresses Bette Davis and Claudette Colbert.
Following a pandemic-induced closure, British developers Reuben Brothers bought the hotel for $150 million in December 2020 and soon after announced plans to reopen it as Corinthia Group’s first property in the United States. Since then, this building in the Upper East Side Historic District has undergone a Landmarks Preservation Commission-approved restoration and renovation by BKSK Architects.
