Mega-development Hudson Yards is already home to an eye-catching collection of new skyscrapers, and the office tower known as The Spiral is poised to be the most recognizable: Bjarke Ingels Group's design features setbacks that wind their way up the building and serve as landscaped terraces for tower-level floors. Construction is underway on the full-block site between West 34th and 35th Streets.
Renderings show airy office space with soaring ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the new Hudson Boulevard Park, home of the Heatherwick Studios sculpture once known as The Vessel. It is directly across the street from the 7 subway extension, two blocks from Penn Station, and a short walk from both New York Waterway and the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
Completion is estimated for the third quarter of 2022, yet The Spiral has already attracted considerable interest. Pfizer is the anchor tenant, having plans to abandon its Midtown East headquarters for Hudson Yards, and the New York Post reports that AllianceBernstein has expressed interest. The financial powerhouse is also eyeing space at 50 Hudson Yards, a Foster + Partners-designed office tower across the way that has just reached street level.
