Beckford House & Tower is a classically-attuned condominium project poised to raise the bar for new developments along the eastern extents of the Upper East Side.
The ambitious two-building scheme, situated on Second Avenue between East 80th and 81st streets, was conceived by Icon Realty Management,
which has spent years keeping details of their plans under wraps. Exterior branding posted at the site over the summer revealed the project's regal name, and now, a feature profile from ELLE Decor releases new details and renderings of the sumptuous affair.
As we previously mentioned, both buildings will boast distinct yet complementary facades and meticulously detailed interiors by the award-winning firm of Studio Sofield, the same firm behind the quickly-selling condo 135 East 79th Street nearby. The design firm's founder, William Sofield, an ELLE Decor A-List interior designer and architect, specified kitchens with custom millwork by Christopher Peacock, Statuary marble countertops and backsplashes, and appliances by Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Miele. Floors will be laid in white-oak and ceiling heights will scale up to a lofty 13 feet. Windowed master baths will be clad in floor-to-ceiling white Statuary marble and come with an ideally-placed Kohler bathtubs fitted with Lefroy Brooks polished chrome fixtures.

According to ELLE, Sofield found fitting within the Upper East Side's historic context to be an issue of utmost importance. The designer explains, “I really was trying to incorporate what I felt were the more charming details of the neighborhood. One [building] is very grand in the old New York style, and one is very elegant and understated but certainly finely detailed.”
Construction at Beckford Tower at 301 East 80th Street recently topped out at 29 stories. The window glass is currently being installed, and the sedate stone and brick façade was still on the rise upon our last visit in early September 2019. The Tower's 72 one- to six-bedroom units will be divided between five units per floor on the second through sixth floors, with no more than three units per floor the rest of the way up for optimal privacy.

One block north, the more modest-in-scale 19-story wing, Beckford House, topped out at the beginning of the year. Its elegant limestone and brick façade is nearly finished, and window installation has begun. The 32 residences of the House are arranged in two- to five-bedroom layouts with no more than three units per floor on the second through fifth floors, two units per floor on the sixth through twelfth floors, one unit per floor on the thirteenth through seventeenth floors, and a duplex penthouse at the top.
Each building will have its own curated set of amenities that include a roof deck, lounge, fitness center, laundry room, bike room, mail/package room, and storage. The Tower will be slightly more amenity-rich, equipped with an indoor pool and sports court.
Sales will officially begin later this year with asking prices starting at $2 million for one-bedrooms and rising to over $20 million for the penthouses. According to offering plans filed with the AG's office, a $186 million sellout is projected for Beckford House and a $531 million sellout is projected for Beckford Tower.
