The Centrale’s design by Pelli Clarke Pelli presents a contemporary take on Art Deco design, and has added a new work of art: World-renowned artist Tony “Rubin” Sjöman has designed an abstract mural on the side of the building. Mr. Sjöman said that this mural was inspired by the juxtaposition of The Centrale’s modern design and the historic buildings surrounding it, which immediately endeared him to The Centrale’s developer, Ceruzzi Properties. The mural was curated in partnership with real estate platform LX Collection.
In a statement, Mr. Sjöman said that the colors of the mural “highlight a combination of my two biggest inspirations: the dark Nordic landscape and the hectic cityscape.” The abstract shapes call to mind the sun rising over an Art Deco building, perhaps inspired by the Chrysler Building (Mr. Sjöman’s favorite New York building). Indeed, much of Mr. Sjöman’s work is inspired by his roots in Finland and Sweden. He created this work entirely freehand, using neither stencils nor tape, and rose to the challenge of the building’s gradient background. The result is a design that commands attention while creating a calming effect in a busy neighborhood.

Residents can arrive through a private porte-cochere or a double-height lobby with full-time doorman and concierge service. Moreover, the building's close proximity to Saks Fifth Avenue inspired a partnership that granted residents access to The Fifth Avenue Club, special shopping and beauty services, and access to special events.
