To make up for the dimming sun caused by today’s solar eclipse, the Marriott Edition Times Square has just turned on one of the largest and most technologically-advanced LED screens in the world. Standing 120 feet tall and spanning 18,000 square feet, the sign appears bright enough to illuminate a small village. It prominently overlooks the Square's tourist-packed “bow-tie” area which attracts roughly 300,000 pedestrians a day according to the Times Square Alliance.
The LED spectacular wraps most of the hotel and retail tower’s lower floors and will provide signage opportunities for its several big-name tenants. For the time being, now displayed is a luminous slideshow that features a variety of photos ranging from scenes from the natural world to DBOX’s iconic photo of 432 Park Avenue.

The new 39-floor, 350,000-square-foot tower is addressed at 701 Seventh Avenue and is also known as 20 Times Square. The developers of the joint-venture project are Witkoff Group, Lorber’s New Valley LLC and Mark Siffin’s Maefield Development. PBDW Architects are the designers.

The podium will be anchored by the 40,000-square-foot NFL Times Square Experience, a $40 million endeavor led by the National Football League and Cirque du Soleil. Hershey’s Chocolate World will also relocate into the building from its current location at West 48th Street and Broadway. Above the retail, dining and entertainment spaces will be a 452-room Marriott Edition hotel that will be run by Ian Schrager. The building is set to fully open by early 2018.
