The development-heavy block of West 29th Street between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues is slowly coming together as another haven of high-end flats. Basking in the reflections of Hudson Yards, the block’s new developments include 507 West Chelsea (now leasing) and the condos of 515 High Line and Soori High Line, which are in their final laps of construction. And now, it appears that Cary Tamarkin’s hush-hush condo building at 550 West 29th Street is that much closer to joining them.
Sales launched in September, along with a first look at the building's interiors, shown below, but now, the West Chelsea condo has removed nearly all of its construction scaffolding, revealing an understated façade of sand-colored bricks and industrial-sash windows.

Perhaps many of you avant-garde fanatics are tiring of the faux-industrial craze, but it seems buyers are still smitten by the notion of living in the lofty skeletal remains of an old pencil-, soap-, Tootsie Roll-, tonic water- , Life Savers-, chocolate-making manufacturing building. With Manhattan’s convertible daylight factories running in short supply, here in West Chelsea, developers have been busy demolishing unexceptional factory buildings to build larger industrial-inspired ones.
And how can one resist when you’re getting all the perks of loft construction while still receiving a modern state-of-the-art building? Tamarkin says all the residences at 550 West 29th will have 20-foot-high ceilings, tremendous walls of glass and unique layouts. There will be four "simplexes" (full-floor units), a dozen duplexes and three penthouses.
All apartments cater to the modern minimalist and come equipped a custom-designed chef's kitchen with Pietra Cardosa countertops and Wolf, Sub-Zero and Miele appliances. Apartments will also come with an in-unit washer/dryer and more than half will have private terraces measuring up to 750 square feet.
The private master suite features his-and-her walk-in closets and 5-fixture baths.
Current inventory consists of three residences spanning from 1,857 to 2,269 square feet. Prices begin at $4.6M.
The building offers a white-glove amenity package that includes a full-time doorman and super, a fitness center, sauna, bicycle storage, and private storage and a video security system for each residence.

Soon to rise just across the street at 606 West 30th Street and 601 West 29th Street are two towers by FXFOWLE and Ismael Leyva Architects, which when combined, will hold over 1,200 apartments.
