A recent pass by City Hall Park and an update from GACE Engineers shows that One Beekman is approximately 15 stories up — more than halfway towards its 25-story pinnacle.
Nicknamed “Pearl on the Park,” the 95,000-square-foot tower is under construction across from City Hall Park and directly west of the magnificently-restored Beekman Hotel. The condo and the retail venture is being developed by Urban Muse and designed by acclaimed British architecture firm Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (RSHP). To ultimately stand 366-foot-high, the tower will contain 31 high-end condominium that will offer protected views over City Hall Park and glimpses of the Brooklyn Bridge and East River.

According to Urban Muse, the building’s 31 flexible homes will range from 900 to 2,900 square feet and the materials used will “convey the inherent warmth and texture appropriate to residential dwellings.” The tower’s first five floors will accommodate 15,000 square feet of retail and commercial space. T.G. Nickel & Associates, who is serving as the project’s construction manager says a glazing system at ground level adds transparency to the retail and lobby areas, distinguishing the base from residential floors.
Richard Rogers, the founder of RSHP, is best known for his high-tech Pompidou Center in Paris whose color-coded exterior flaunts the building’s mechanical guts. Here at Beekman Place, the architect’s characteristic red-, blue- and black-colored elements organize the exterior. The tower is the firm’s second in the city, serving as a counterpart to Silverstein’s 3 World Trade Center (175 Greenwich Street) finishing construction nearby. One Beekman is scheduled for completion later this year.
