Two years after Savanna acquired a parcel of land, air rights, and an off-site residence hall from the Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) , construction has gone vertical on Vandewater, a 183-unit condo development at 543 West 122nd Street in Morningside Heights. Next door to the project, JTS is hard at work on its new 21st Century Campus, which includes a dorm that can house 150 students an audiotrium, and a two-story library that will be home to one of the world’s greatest collections of rare Judaic books and manuscripts.
At 32 stories, 391 feet high, Vandewater will become the tallest building in Manhattan, north of Central Park. Incorporated Architecture and Design is handling the design and SLCE are the executive architects. The 183 one- through four-bedroom residences will have large windows looking out onto views of the Hudson River, Central Park, and Manhattan skyline.

Vandewater, which takes its name from Morningside Heights’ original name of Vandewater Heights, will have 24,000 square feet of amenities including a Wright Fit gym, private gardens, outdoor dining, and a landscaped motor court. All outdoor amenity landscaping will be designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates. Prices are not yet available, but a teaser site says prices will range from $750K to over $5 million.
