Finally, East Williamsburg may be getting a new development that reflects the creativity of some of its residents. At 88 Withers Street, at the corner of Leonard, an eccentric new condo building will put a new angle on stacking the pile. In addition to its 33 new condo units, the building will provide fully-functional work suites in its cellar that can be used as private home offices, art studios, workshops, wine cellars or whatever your creative heart desires.
The project site overlooks Badame-Sessa Memorial Square (near the BQE) and was formerly occupied by a two-floor warehouse last used for storage by Paramount Studios. The developers are RYBAK Development and BK Developers who purchased the property in 2016 for $11.5M. RYBAK, who previously brought us the Vue in Sheepshead Bay, has tapped their go-to architects, Zproekt to design the 9-story building. Renderings show a sculpted pile of floors, offset from one another, that we can only liken to a mutant baby spawned by 56 Leonard and 12 Warren Street.

The building will be called Element88 and sales are to commence in the 3rd quarter of 2017. The preview website says the project intends to “announce a new standard in Williamsburg luxury living.” There will one-, two- and three-bedroom homes with 12-foot ceilings, spacious layouts, herringbone floors, and designer fixtures and appliances. In addition to the work suites, amenities are to include a 22-foot-high lobby, virtual doorman, a 6,000 square-foot indoor/outdoor park, and a fitness center.
