According to a new report, America’s first-quarter GDP has contracted for the first time in six years and fallen at a 4.8% annualized rate. This was the worst drop since the fourth quarter of 2008, or the height of the Great Recession. Economists caution that "the full economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic cannot be quantified," but between the closing of non-essential businesses, stay-at-home orders, and large-scale layoffs and furloughs, more people are saving their money than spending. In the meantime, a total of 50 condos, co-ops, and townhouses throughout the five boroughs have had their prices reduced in the past seven days. Just as the coronavirus does not discriminate, neither does the price cuts - small studios and sprawling mansions alike have experienced them. Please be advised that all figures reflect cumulative price cuts as opposed to the most recent reductions.

The fears may have hit the rental market as well, with one striking example to be found at 432 Park Avenue: Shortly after New York went on lockdown, a high-floor home in the city's tallest finished residential building went on the market as a fully furnished rental asking an eye-watering $100,000/month. But it seems the unit’s prestigious address, corner location, and AD100 design pedigree have yet to entice a renter in this environment; the price has fallen 55 percent to $45,000/month over the past week. The sale of the 59th-floor sky palace
closed last year for $16,939,575. The buyer is listed as the LLC, Hampstead Properties, Inc.
