The top sale of the past week was also one of the top sales of the year: At 220 Central Park South, home of the country's most expensive home sale, a full-floor penthouse sold for a whopping $72,000,000. The Wall Street Journal notes that the unit was not officially on the market, and that the unidentified seller also paid $3,000,000 for a one-bedroom unit on a lower floor, presumably to be used as a staff or guest apartment.
One block east, a penthouse unit at 111 West 57th Street, the city's skinniest skyscraper and one of its tallest, closed for $50,518,750. This comes in 11.4% below the last listed price of $57,000,000, but was nevertheless good enough for the second-highest sale of the past week.
