The term pied-à-terre—a French phrase literally meaning “foot on the ground”—refers to a small apartment you keep in the city in addition to your main residence so you have a place to call home when you’re in town for business or fun. Ex-New-Yorkers who have moved out of town, for example, may want a city roost to stay in when visiting family and friends. Whatever the reason, parking and amenities can be important, as well as location near destinations and transportation. It's also worth noting that a co-op’s board may limit how you can use the apartment; it can sometimes be better to go the condo route so you have more flexibility. The recent listings below are pied-à-terre-friendly pads that may just fit the bill.
