Updated to include seller of 820 Fifth Avenue.
When Central Park Tower was still under construction, developer Extell projected a $4 billion sellout for the building. They have since adjusted expectations in the wake of homes that sold well below the asking price, but even discounted listings rack up high prices. For example, the full-floor, five-bedroom #114 was last week's highest with a closing price of $44,866,213. The Real Deal notes that this came in about $19 million below the last ask of $63.5 million, and that the sale took place months after the similarly reduced sale of #122.

Nevertheless, Central Park Tower had the top sale by a comfortable margin: The second-highest sale was Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon's penthouse at the Carhartt Mansion on the Upper East Side, which sold for $19,250,000 about six weeks after entering contract and nine years after it was first listed for $34,000,000. The Wall Street Journal announced the penthouse's sale and noted that Ms. Mellon paid $20 million for it in 2008. It also reported that in the four-bedroom home's primary suite, Ms. Mellon expanded the closet to accommodate her shoe collection.
The highest co-op sale and fifth-highest overall took place at 820 Fifth Avenue, a prewar building with a prime Upper East Side address and an impressive roster of previous residents: Governor Alfred E. Smith, William and Babe Paley, Gordon Getty, and Stavros Niarchos among them. Public records indicate that the latest to join their ranks is Mexican business executive Juan Guallardo Thurlow, and Crain's New York Business reports that he bought it from the estate of Lechters Housewares co-founder Donald Jonas.
