Last week, The Wall Street Journal announced that Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen's estate had sold his penthouse and apartment on a lower floor (presumably a staff or guest unit) at 4 East 66th Street for a combined $101,000,000, or more than four times what Mr. Allen paid for the penthouse in 2011; information on the lower-level unit was not available. This sale breaks the previous record for the city's most expensive co-op, which was previously held by a $77.5 million apartment at the nearby 834 Fifth Avenue in 2015.
