There are just under two weeks left in 2019, but still enough time for 220 Central Park South to slip in another jaw-dropping sale. According to public records, Penthouse #73 closed for $92.7 million on December 5, the third-highest residential deal ever signed in New York City history. The top honor is still held by Ken Griffin’s 24,000-square-foot spread on the 50th floor of the building, which closed in January for a whopping for $240 million. The home is the most expensive sale ever in the United States.
The New York Post broke the news of 220 CPS' $92.7M sale. Two other closings were recorded in the building the same day aggregating to more than $150 million in a single day. In addition to Penthouse #73, these include #34A, a four-bedroom that closed for $30.98 million, and #55B, a three-bedroom that closed for $26.79 million. 220 Central Park South has racked up $1.72 billion in sales so far, including purchases by rock star Sting and investor Daniel Och. It is unknown which units are still available in the building and the only public listings are four rental apartments from $34,950 to $99,000/month.

220 Central Park South has been dubbed “the billionaire’s bunker,” and over 20,000 square feet of amenities further enhance its prestige. The Artisans Club is designed by Thierry Despont and home to club rooms, dining rooms, a screening room, a game room, a children’s playroom, and a residents-only restaurant operated by Jean-Georges Vongerichten. The 220 Athletic Club & Spa has a state-of-the-art fitness center, yoga/Pilates studio, basketball court, squash court, golf simulator, saltwater pool, sauna and steam rooms, and locker rooms with space for spa treatments. A private motor court, doorman, concierge, and maid service elevate standards of living about as high as the supertall itself.
