Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is one of our favorite TV shows set and filmed in New York City. While Kimmy, her roomate Titus Andromedon, and landlord Lillian Kaushtupper live in the fictional upper Manhattan neighborhood of East Dogmouth, the exterior of their apartment building shown is a real-life walk-up at 74 Freeman Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Besides the address, the social transitions of East Dogmouth parallels Greenpoint in that both are dealing with a serious bout of gentrification. While landlord Lillian is invested in a losing battle to keep East Dogmouth "weird and dangerous," the opening of high-end businesses and brigades of strollers and joggers have proved her efforts futile throughout the shows three-and-a-half seasons.
City records show the building was built in 1931, though some of its intact details lead us to believe it's quite a bit older. The building has four units along its three floors. We found the three-bed/1-bath garden-level unit, similar to the dim hovel Kimmy and Titus rent in, is listed for $2,799 a month. Perks include a shared backyard, a new bathroom vanity and mirror to be installed (never to be installed), and best of all windows and closets in every room.

To help you relive some of Kimmy's comical jaunts in the big city, one block east on Freeman Street is the coffee shop Bakeri, which appears in the show as “The Pinched Loaf." With their high-end $8 granolas, $9 biscuit and eggs, and sandwiches that start at $12, perhaps you'll also catch landlord Lillian picketing outside.
Additional evdence of the neighborhood's change is that 74 Freeman is just a half block from Greenpoint Landing, a mega-project that will bring 10 towers, approximately 5,500 residential units, and acres of parkland to a 10-acre waterfront site. The first market-rate building, One Blue Slip, recently opened where the cheapest apartment is a studio going for $2,557 a month. A few doors down at 78 Freeman, a boutique condo is going up that will have four condos but a total sellout of $5.6 million.
