The San Remo is a world-renowned example of iconic residential architecture, but its two-towered design was considered edgy and innovative for its time. Former resident Donna Karan is also known for her daring designs that have since become timeless pieces.

The Plaza is one of New York’s most recognizable and fashionable addresses, and has attracted similar clientele among residents: Designer Tommy Hilfiger bought a penthouse in the building and listed it after an extensive renovation. When it ultimately sold in 2019, the $33.25 million price included some of Mr. Hilfiger’s furniture and art.

Tall, dark, and handsome. Metropolitan Tower was the “it” building before Billionaires Row became a thing. Its svelte modern facade, sharp angles, and dedicated staff have made it a discreet, centrally located building for many notable public figures. They include Brazilian model Adriana Lima, who owned an apartment in the building from 2003 to 2018.

The Donald J. Trump Collection (clothing line) is no longer in production, but Trump Tower still boasts one of the city’s most enviable addresses: There is a Gucci flagship in the base of the Fifth Avenue building, and it is close to Tiffany, Prada, Louis Vuitton, and Bergdorf Goodman, to name a few.

Impeccable style would appear to be a requirement for the owner of the penthouse at One Sutton Place South: Decades after socialite/style icon/Truman Capote “swan” C.Z. Guest lived there, fashion designer Lisa Perry moved in with her billionaire husband, hedge fund executive Richard Perry. They renovated it to accommodate their art collection, but details like high ceilings, expansive proportions, and oversized windows give it a timeless touch.

Many high-end designers, photographers, and models spend their time jet-setting around the world and may be here in New York for special occasions like NY Fashion Week. A perfect address for this so-called pied a terre living is CASSA, a slender white-robed tower in the heart of Manhattan, with a hotel and restaurant run by a Food Network chef within its lower floors.

Fashion designer Thierry Mugler famously lived in Paris, but briefly owned a pied-a-terre at the top of loft condominium Chelsea Atelier. He reportedly put his own unique stamp on the penthouse, but features like an atrium ceiling, floating staircase, and private terrace could scarcely be improved upon.

During her career as a model, Linda Evangelista has walked the runways of some of the most luxurious brands in the world and presented a fashion-forward face to the world. The same could be said of her New York real estate: She bought an apartment in The Spears Building (listed below), a factory-to-residential conversion years before the High Line would open and transform the neighborhood.

When Gramercy Park Hotel was in its heyday, it attracted a veritable who’s who of New York’s movers and shakers. Among them was fashion designer Derek Lam, who bought an apartment in the residential component with his husband in 2014 and worked with a decorator to make the most of their art collection. But following the closure of the hotel, the closure of his label, and a move to Paris, the apartment is now on the market (shown below -- h/t Curbed).

When his career as a fashion designer was at its peak, Kanye West brought his eye for style to his Claudio Silvestrin-designed Soho apartment. He lived there with his former partner, Skims co-founder Kim Kardashian, and it was featured in Vogue, but would wind up taking a loss on it when he sold it in June 2020.

Once home to late fashion designer Antonio Versace the Forward Building has had an illustrious history from former... to the icon of trendy Dimes Square

The building at 175 East Broadway has an eye-catching façade and an illustrious history. It was built in 1912 for The Jewish Daily Forward newspaper; years later, when it was converted to condos, Antonio D’Amico, fashion designer and partner to Gianni Versace, owned an apartment in the building. Most recently, it is primely positioned for a front-row seat to trendy Dimes Square.
