The 9,710-square-foot penthouse at the top of the iconic Woolworth Building has been christened the Pinnacle for its location, but that could apply to its price as well: It is going on the market for $110 million, which The Wall Street Journal reports would shatter the record for the most expensive sale downtown. The current record is held by a sale for $50.9 million at Walker Tower in Chelsea.
The penthouse boasts 24-foot ceilings, a private elevator, a 400-square-foot open observatory, and views in all directions. The interior is raw, which will allow the buyer to customize the number of bedrooms and bathrooms. Building amenities include a spa with sauna and hot tub, fitness studio, wine cellar and tasting room, and restored basement pool that once belonged to the building’s namesake.

The apartment is contained in the green, copper-clad peak of the building, which previously housed mechanical equipment for office tenants below. This presented unique challenges for the residential conversion. Developer Alchemy Properties had to receive permission from the Landmarks Preservation Commission to expand the existing windows and build new ones for it to meet light and air requirements. They also replaced damaged terra cotta tiles on the building’s façade.
