While the New York City skyline is a worldwide icon, it is not a fixed landmark but in a constant state of evolution, and the past few days alone are enough to prove it. Shortly after the spire rose at One Vanderbilt to make the office tower the fourth-tallest building in New York, it was announced that Central Park Tower topped out at 1,550 feet high. Reaching this milestone makes the Extell-developed condominium the tallest residential building in the world.

Central Park Tower already stands out by virtue of its impressive height. Its façade is well on the way up and will make an even more dramatic statement upon completion. The design by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture uses glass, satin-finished stainless steel, and vertical and horizontal details to accentuate the tower’s interplay of texture and light.
A cantilever to the east opens all north-facing apartments to Central Park views, and all units will feature grand-scaled interiors and sophisticated finishes designed by Rottet Studio, which is primarily known for its work on luxury hotels throughout the world. The 179 two- through eight-bedroom homes start on the 32nd floor to make the most of spectacular skyline, river, and park views. These same views will be on display throughout Central Park Club, a private club of 50,000 square feet of luxury amenities spread over three floors. Current availabilities range from $6.9 million to a whopping $63 million, and closings are expected to begin in 2020.
The base of the tower will be home to a 300,000-square-foot full-line Nordstrom department store with seven stories of shopping and six unique restaurants and bars. A spokesperson from Nordstrom says this is the culmination of a 25-year search for a New York flagship and the company’s largest single-project investment in its history. It will open to the public on October 24, 2019.
