Back in 2015, 6sqft reported that construction had begun on Morris Adjmi's 540 West 26th Street and revealed new renderings of the nine-story commercial and gallery building. Now, construction has topped off on the mixed-use project developed by Savanna and the Silvermintz family. The 166,810-square-foot development is cleverly situated just one block from the Hudson River waterfront and the High Line in the trendy West Chelsea neighborhood.
The developers have already pre-leased 51% of the building to Avenues: The World School and are currently marketing 67,069 RSF of available office space on the upper floors along with 12,400 SF of gallery space on the ground floor. Future office tenants will receive full floors with 15' ceilings, mushroom columns, oversized windows, and a private entrance. The building's ground floor will contain high-end retail space with generous ceiling heights and an open layout.
Morris Adjmi's design pays homage to the neighborhood’s industrial character with its bead-blasted aluminum frame and interiors showcasing blackened steel, polished concrete, and leather accents on the lobby desk and handrails. The building will also feature an impressive 9,300 square feet of outdoor space, which includes a setback on the seventh floor and a private rooftop terrace complete with skyline views. 540 West 26th Street is expected to be completed this fall.
