In the heart of one of New York's most adored neighborhoods, the Upper West Side, David Howell-led DHD Architecture has penned a handsomely dour boutique condominium at 132 West 83rd Street. Positioned mid-block between Amsterdam and Columbus avenues, not far from Central Park and the American Museum of Natural History, the project replaces two derelict four-story buildings. The buildings were razed early last year, and permits for the new building were approved in February.
According to the firm and renderings posted, the building will be clad in a warm textured brick with deep rectangular grooves running vertically between each of the three window bays. Brick lintel courses run vertically and windows are embedded far within the muted grey facade--all producing a richly textured composition that will play wonderfully with light and shadow.

Inside will be six capacious homes with an average floor area of 2,200 square feet. The 13,000 square foot, six floor building will host four full-floor units and two duplexes-one on the ground floor with an accompanying garden and another on the sixth floor with a penthouse terrace space. The units between the second through sixth floor will all be provided garden-facing balconies.
The typical layouts for full-floor units will be open and grand, with flowing living spaces and island kitchens. Three bedrooms, including the master, will be positioned along West 83rd Street and a smaller guest bedroom with an en suite bath is located along the rear.
