Here's your first look at a pair of conceptual renderings for a new mixed-use building set to rise on Fulton Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant. The renderings are from RKTB Architects, and show a 10-story building that will have 54 rental apartments and ground floor retail, according to their website.
The site for the building is located at 1618-1620 Fulton Street between Albany and Troy avenues and, though no permits have been filed with the city, is tentatively addressed as 1618 Fulton Street. It will encompass roughly 71,000 square feet, and its 54 apartments will include both affordable and market-rate units.
The design of the building is interesting. Its facade is made of glass and metal which will "optimize light and views," according to RKTB. It has an undulating section nearly the full height of the building that features crimson-colored accents, and the two floors above this wavy portion have similar accents, but in a gold color. It has a windowed base for retail, and a garage also appears in the rendering. The architect notes that energy efficient strategies will be used for the project, and that the building aims to create a visually compelling experience for this strip of Fulton Street.
The new building will replace a single-story structure built in 1988, and an adjacent vacant lot. This area of Fulton Street has several vacant lots and few retail storefronts, and this type of mixed-use development will bring significant improvement to the streetscape. The developer of the project is 1618-1620 Fulton Street LLC and purchased the site in 2006 for $935,000, according to ACRIS records.
