A nondescript one-story building situated within the Alphabet City section of the East Village is ready to undergo a significant transformation. The site, located at 619 East 6th Street between Avenue B and Avenue C, hit the market way back in 2013 for $5.4 million and was eventually bought last year by Cpare LLC for $4.7 million. The LLC also shares the address listed on file with Mermelstein Development. Permits were approved in December for a 9,235-square-foot, 6-story building complete with five relatively roomy residences, likely to become condos. DXA Studio is the architect on file.

DXA Studio has since released some renderings that show an avant-garde facade made of Danish handmade bricks accompanied by folding wood slatted screens to provide solar shading, as well as "unencumbered views when re-positioned to the far sides of the facade." These views will include a community garden located directly across the street. DXA Studio's renderings were also clearly influenced by the street art scene on the Lower East Side and may incorporate a full width mural along the lot-line, western wall of the structure.
619 East 6th Street will feature storage space for residents, a bike room and a private rooftop terrace for the 6th floor duplex. The five residences range from a cozy studio up to an expansive three-bedroom with an office.
