The long-vacant lot at the corner of Tenth Avenue and West 34th Street will not be empty much longer. Construction of the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel, a project by Atria Builders and Marx Development Group, has risen above ground and will ultimately rise to 312 feet with 29 floors. The Courtyard will be one of two new hotels sharing the block-front sire near Related's Hudson Yards mega-project. The other hotel is just one door down at 444 Tenth Avenue, and is nearing completion.
The hotel will have 339 rooms and is located at 461 West 34th Street, one block away from the Jacob Javits Convention Center, which is currently undergoing a $400 million renovation. DSM Design Group is the architect of record, however Karl Fischer Architects has also contributed to the design of the relatively underwhelming building. The hotel will have a fitness center, meeting rooms, several restaurants, and a two-story dining room. Interiors are being designed by Lemay + Escobar.
The development covers an area of 200,00 square feet and has a price tag of $181 million. It is funded in part by the federal EB-5 program, which allows foreigners to obtain a United States visa by investing in an American business. The Manhattan Regional Center’s website has more information about the EB-5 process and the construction of the project. Completion of the hotel is slated for some time next year.
