Vornado Realty Trust’s 220 Central Park South is inching closer to its 950-foot pinnacle. The limestone tower now soars more than 600 feet above street level, roughly two-thirds of the way up to its eventual peak. It is a dozen floors above its eastern-facing setback, which is 542 feet above street level. Above that 40th level, the tower will exclusively contain duplex and quadplex homes. The two-building development was designed by Robert A. M. Stern, and will be reminiscent of the renowned architect's other limestone masterpiece, 15 Central Park West.

The building's 118 homes will be gorgeously appointed, and the building is rumored to host the city's most expensive condo; a $250 million four-floor combination of a duplex apartment on the 50th and 51st floors, with three residences from the two floors above. 6sqft reported that billionaire hedge funder Ken Griffin has claimed the 23,000-square-foot residence, which could perhaps be double the price of the city's current most expensive condominium. Vornado has kept sales and listings on the hush, and the Steven Roth-led firm is reportedly putting prospective residents through a rigorous vetting process. It has also been rumored that British rockstar Sting and his wife Trudie Styler are currently negotiating a condo in the building.
The building's classical exterior transitions into opulent interiors. Amenities will mirror those at 15 Central Park West and will include a motor court, a library, a screening room, wine cellars, a fitness center, and a private club-style dining room. Developers are expecting a total sellout of $3.17 billion for the project. The 66-story structure will likely top out by year's end, with completion slated for 2017.
