Last year we learned the Hakimian Organization purchased air rights from the landmarked Helen Hayes Theatre on West 44th Street in order to move forward with a new hotel at 250 West 49th Street and now, new renderings of the hotel have surfaced. The Midtown-based company bought the West 49th Street site back in 2003 for $13.1 million, and last year gained 16,000 square feet from the theater only a few blocks to the south. Plans call for a renovation of the existing 8-story, 58,000-square-foot structure, and will top it with a 17-floor addition, giving the building 116,406 square feet for the 254 planned hotel rooms.

Plans filed with the Department of Buildings also show the new project will maintain some of its retail space, which previously included a cafe and gym. Each floor will have up to 13 rooms and when complete, its amenities will include a fitness center, a laundry room, and a roof bar with a terrace. A convenient location for both tourism and business travel, the site is in close proximity to Times Square and eleven subway lines. The project is expected to be complete in 2018.
