For those longing for Hamptons serenity without leaving Manhattan, Isay Weinfeld has designed a condominium for you. Last week sales officially launched for the Brazilian architect’s first New York commission, named Jardim (Portuguese for garden) for its leafy oasis in the heart of the Chelsea gallery district. Isay was recently selected as the interior designer of the new Four Seasons restaurant in Midtown. Here, in low-key Chelsea, Isay crafts two 11-story fraternal buildings that frame a 40’x60’ private urban park and will be clad in a textually rich skin of cast-concrete with elongated expanses of glazing between.
Here, thirty-six light-filled homes frame the lushly planted courtyard whose design done in conjuction with
Future Green Studio seeks echo the nearby High Line park. According to a press release, "The multi-level Jardim gardens are a lush private wilderness of color and texture, featuring a canopy of native evergreens and fragrant flowering trees, above clusters of indigenous shrubs."

And like all Manhattan real estate surrounding coveted greenery, the one- to four bedroom units are priced competitively. Asking prices for Jardim's three available homes stand at $2,475 per square foot. The lowest priced unit is a 2,218-square-foot three-bedroom on the fourth floor asking for $4.25 million; another three-bedroom on the third floor is asking for $4.25 million; and a four-bedroom on the seventh floor has an ask of $7.55 million.
Inside are spacious residences, many featuring both north and south exposure due to the unique free-standing massings of the buildings. Panoramic windows provide views of West Chelsea and glimpses of the High Line and Hudson River. Private outdoor spaces are seamlessly accessed via sliding pocket doors and lush plantings will be woven throughout the roof and outdoor terrace areas. An interior palette of smoked oak, marble, brass and limestone—all selected by Weinfeld—allows the architecture to fall to the background. Kitchens with center islands are equipped with Gaggeneau appliances, and double-sink master bathrooms feature lava stone counter tops, grooved wood vanities, and lacquered brass fixtures.
One of Jardim's signature elements is dramatic private driveway running the length of the a block-through development. Other amenities an attended lobby, an indoor pool, fitness center and massage room.
A partnership between Centaur Properties and Greyscale Development Group yielded the 95,000-square-foot through-block lot at 525 West 27th Street. The site formerly held the Pink Elephant nightclub and now partially shoulders 520 West 28th Street, designed by late architect Zaha Hadid. Construction is due to wrap up near the end of 2017, and recently a bit of concrete wall has started to peer over the ubiquitous green-colored construction fence.
