WealthX has just released its annual World Ultra Wealth Report that measures the state
of the world’s ultra-high net worth (UHNW) population. The 2017 report reveals that the New York metro area continues to serve as the largest home of such individuals with a total of 8,350, a surge of 9% over the prior year. The report defines a UHNW individual as one whose net worth is $30 million of more, and this year’s report tallies 226,450 of such persons on the planet (yes, they are the 0.00003%). That number is a 1.5% increase (+72,550) over the prior year and their total combined wealth is a whopping $27 trillion.
According to the report, the biggest UHNW gainers are North America (U.S. and Canada only apparently) and Asia, posting +5.1% and +3.5% gains respectively. The weakest performers were Latin America, the Caribbean, and Africa. U.S. cities hold five of the top 10 cities in the ranking and also account for half of the top 30 on the list. New York posted the largest gains out of any U.S. city while Houston was the only U.S. city to record a decline.
Despite heightened geopolitical instability, the report projects modest gains in the ultra-wealthy population and is forecast to rise by 72,550 individuals to 299,000 by 2021. Read the entire report at the link below.
