In spring 2024, a report by Zillow in partnership with BARK (creators of dog toy subscription service BarkBox) found that New York ranks among the top 10 cities in the United States for finding dog-friendly rentals. More than 70% of the city's rental listings are advertised as pet-friendly, and some buildings have taken this several steps further by incorporating dog runs, pet spas, and on-site training and pet care facilities into their extensive amenity packages. This all takes place in a city with pet-friendly legislation, not to mention social activities and countless retailers and service providers dedicated to making pet ownership easy and fun.
Another factor in New York’s popularity among pet parents is the city’s parks. Data from the American Veterinary Medical Association in partnership with NYCEDC found that New York City's highest concentration of pet owners can be found on either side of Central Park in Manhattan, near Astoria Park in Queens, and the East River waterfront section of Williamsburg in Brooklyn; this demonstrates that dog owners are choosing to live closer to parks and dog runs to better accommodate their pets’ needs. (It does not hurt that these neighborhoods are some of the most attractive to humans as well.)

Below, we look at New York’s top ten rentals for pet owners. Rankings are based on the quality of the pet-friendly amenities as well as proximity to city parks.
