Building critic Carter Horsley is hard to please and doesn't often mince his words, but he's a fan of the latest Long Island City tower to debut from the prolific firm of FXFOWLE - The Forge.
Developed by Brause Realty and the Gotham Organization, the new building rises to 38 floors in the Court Square section of the neighborhood on the dead end Purves Street. Horsley calls it a "stunning rental tower" and compares the design to the famous art deco centerpiece 30 Rockefeller Center in Manhattan. It's also "a very elegant and striking slab residential skyscraper on a podium that recalls some of John Portman’s famous towers from several decades ago," he says.

Inside The Forge are 272 rental units with up to two bedrooms, and the base that Horsley mentions is home to several of the tower's luxurious amenities, which include a 50-foot outdoor pool and an outdoor screening area. Leasing first began in June and now, the team behind the project has revealed beautifully designed model units that highlight fine craftsmanship and quality of the apartments, putting them in a favorable light that Horsley might also approve of. Many homes are still available and prices start at $2,485/month for a studio, $3,030/month for a one-bedroom and $4,150/month for a two-bedroom.
Built with sustainable principles, from the construction of the tower to the interior of the homes, the structure has a pending LEED Silver certification from features like wind turbine and solar panels. Residents are able to reduce their imprint too, with EnergyStar appliances and energy-conserving windows.

Homes feature oak floors and industrial-inspired multi-pane windows, some that extend from the floor to the ceiling, and there are subtle architectural elements that can be enhanced with the right furnishings and colors (notice the black-painted ceiling in the model unit). Kitchens feature wood paneled cabinetry, quartz countertops with some that also offer breakfast bars. Stainless steel, EnergyStar appliances from KitchenAid and Bosch further the industrial-inspired look, and all units come equipped with in-unit washers/dryers. Bedrooms are spacious and have large closets, and bathrooms have penny-tiled floors and showers, handsome vanities and large mirrors.
Residents of the first-class building have access to a sizable amenity package of 26,000 square feet with outdoor features like a 50-foot swimming pool, screening area, rooftop terrace and a sculpture garden, and indoor spaces including a sky lounge, fitness center, concierge services, bike storage and more.
