However, this part of Queens was already firmly on many New Yorkers’ radar at this point for its proximity to Manhattan and more attainable rents than those in Manhattan.

The neighborhood’s first Trader Joe’s opened at 22-43 Jackson Avenue last summer, Target signed a lease at One Court Square, and organic grocery store Prestige Marketplace cited Long Island City's large tenant population as a factor in their decision to open an outpost at 45-45 Central Boulevard. Additionally, an influx of Asian residents has led to local businesses scrambling to meet the demands of this market; a bubble tea franchise owner told The New York Times that waiting hours for food deliveries to arrive from Flushing inspired him to open in Long Island City.

CityRealty listings show only 73 units for rent in Long Island City with a median rent of $4,225/month.
