Carter's Review

This 6-story, red-brick apartment building at 360 West 55th Street on the southeast corner at Ninth Avenue is notable for its very handsome, rusticated white marble, one-step-up entrance surround with fluted deep curved walls.

The building, which is also known as 830-840 Ninth Avenue, has 101 rental apartments and was built in 1942.

It was designed by Samson V. Becker, who had his own architectural firm from the early 1930s until he became an architect and housing consultant and a design deputy for the New York City Housing Authority in the 1950s.

The developer was the 55th St. Realty Corp. of Grand Avenue in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx.

Bottom Line

This pleasant rental building on one of the nicest tree-lined streets in Clinton has a handsome entrance with full-time doorman and is not far from Central Park.
