Carter's Review

This “industrial” pair of 16-story residential buildings at 505 West 43rd Street between Tenth and Eleventh avenues in Hell’s Kitchen has been designed by ODA Architecture, which is headed by Eran Chen, for the Elad Group and Mi&Co.

ODA’s other projects in the city include 241 Fifth Avenue, 15 Union Square West, and 100 Norfolk Street.

The development, which has 123 condominium apartments and good amenities, is known as Charlie West.

Andres Escobar is the interior designer.

It is built over the Amtrak right-of-way and is expected to be completed in 2018.

Bottom Line

How can you not like a double-height lobby with large angled columns and a fireplace, a wall with 8 layers of library shelving and a translucent shed for bicycles?  What else would you expect to find behind the crazy-quilt brown brick façade with mullions with one vertical edge with a handsome angled quoin treatment?

Description

The building has an unusual façade with double- and triple-height mullions of varying widths in brown brick with one vertical edge with a handsome, angled quoin treatment.  The mullions will have a golden patina.

The building has sidewalk landscaping and a very dramatic “industrial chic” lobby what has large angled columns and double-height library with 8 levels of shelving as well as a lounge with a fireplace.

The lobby also has a translucent shed for bicycles.

The building also has an indoor/outdoor pool and a fitness center that has outdoor terraces and opens onto the building’s landscaped courtyard.

Amenities

The building has a roof deck, a courtyard and garden, a library, a children’s playroom, a fitness center, some terraces and balconies, a swimming pool and a bicycle room.
