Carter's Review
This large apartment house, which occupies the west blockfront from 56th to 57th Street with its entrance in the middle of the avenue frontage, was built in 1962 and converted to a cooperative in 1978.
The building, which has a façade of three shades of gray brick, has a prime, central location in the Plaza District very close to Central Park.
Convenient to subways and buses, the 21-story, 320-unit building has an impressive large marquee entrance and spacious lobby and a garage on 56th Street.
Unlike many midtown residential properties, it is across the street from a supermarket and within a short walking distance of the Museum of Modern Art and Rockefeller Center and Carnegie Hall, after which it was named. It also offers excellent access to Central Park, Columbus Circle, the Theater District, and Fifth Avenue shopping.
There is good public transportation, but the area has a lot of traffic.
