Overview of The Copper at 626 First Avenue

The Copper has been a magnet for superlatives even in a city filled with stunning architecture and enticing amenities. From its place in the 21st-century skyline, the eye-catching East Side luxury rental complex also has bragging rights to New York’s highest sky bridge. Designed by SHoP Architects, the development’s two slanting towers are clad in copper on their north and south sides and glass on their east and west sides.

Nearer the East River, the south tower is 41 stories high; the north tower rises 48 stories. The complex contains 761 apartments, 4,000 square feet of retail space and 95,000 square feet of amenities and community facilities.

A members-only club with a rooftop pool overlooking one of New York’s most amazing East River views sits atop the building. The three-story sky bridge contains a 75-foot-long swimming pool, a two-story fitness center with a climbing wall and a residents’ lounge and bar with a screening room and a children’s playroom. The building also has a roof deck with an infinity pool, a garage for more than 200 cars and a spa. Additional amenities include a catering kitchen, juice bar, pet spa, landscaped park and fountain, sheltered port-cochere with valet parking, bike room, and storage.

An East River-side midtown location means it’s also near parks and playgrounds, the United Nations, the bustling midtown business district and a wealth of international museums and restaurants. Local favorites include Dover Street Market for fashion, Blue Smoke for BBQ and Kajitsu for Japanese cuisine. The 4 and 6 subways are just a few blocks away, and close proximity to Grand Central Terminal makes longer commutes convenient.

Carter’s Review

"The jaunty two rental apartment towers of the American Copper Buildings complex, east of First Avenue between 35th and 36th streets, appear to want to fly off in different directions but are tied together at their waists with a three-story-high skybridge that contains mechanical spaces and a 75-foot-long swimming pool.

The south tower is 41 stories high and is closest to the East River. The north tower is 48 stories high and closer to the Empire State Building further west on 34th Street."
