Overview of Kips Bay Towers at 333 East 30th Street

Kips Bay Towers is a 1,118-unit condominium complex that offers a degree of garden-surrounded privacy that few, if any, condos in Manhattan can match. Two 21-story towers sit within a three-acre, resident-only garden with lawns, strolling alleys, a basketball court, and a playground. A private driveway with a tree-planted parking lot is perfect for car-owning residents, while subway commuters may hop on the 33rd Street station of the 4 and 6 trains, located nearby on Park Avenue, and cyclists can make use of the bike lanes that run along either side of the complex on First and Second avenues, while storing their bicycles in the dedicated bike room. Other amenities include 24-hour doormen, concierge services, laundry rooms, a fitness center, and a room for community events. Most units are equipped with dishwashers.

The buildings were designed by the late and great architect I. M. Pei, one of the leaders of the mid-century modernist movement, in a Zen-like, minimalist style that comes alive in fine details (thin window spandrels, concrete notches, and piloti columns at ground level), and juxtaposes prettily against the lush tree canopy in the garden. The complex sits near neighborhood favorites such as Fairway, Trader Joe's, and the Kips Bay Movie Theater, as well as ample dining options. Carter’s Review

"To the north and west of "Hospital Alley" along First Avenue, the Kips Bay Plaza complex of two 21-story, slab residential towers is one of the first major projects designed by famous architect I. M. Pei in New York City.

Pei, then an architect with the Webb & Knapp development company headed by William Zeckendorf, collaborated with the architectural firm, whose firm worked with S. J. Kessler & Sons on the development."

Broker & Buyer Comments

Please note that these comments have not been reviewed or confirmed by CityRealty and may be old, incomplete or otherwise inaccurate. Be sure to consult with a qualified real estate specialist for up-to-date information.

The building has a laundry room, a basketball court, a childrens playground and a huge courtyard.

This building is a Condop. The management company had changed in the middle of this deal so it was somewhat complicated. Douglas Elliman was taken over by Cooper Square Realty who now runs the building. Because the building is a condop the board had right of first refusal so approval was very easy.

The immediate neighborhood consists of a lot of NYU Hospital Employees. Other than that the neighborhood is generally young. It has a lot of sports bars, restaurants and of course The Kips Bay Movie Theatre is a staple in the neighborhood.
The Neighborhood is getting even better with new high end apartment rentals and condos being built in all directions. NYU Medical Center is adding a new building on First Avenue and 34th Street, Fairway is a few steps away and Trader's Joe's is soon to open on Third Avenue and 33rd Street! The Second Avenue Subway will be finished in the next 10 to 12 years....Long term investors will benefit.
