Carter Horsley's Building Review Carter Horsley

Carter's Review

This attractive, 9-story, red-brick, mid-block apartment building was erected in 1923. It is a cooperative and has 32 apartments.

The lower two stories of the building have attractive masonry banding and the building has an archted entrance with sidewalk landscaping. It has four band-courses and a concierge, but no garage, no health club, and no roof deck. It has no garage, but is just to the west of a garage.

It has a fine Upper East Side location that is close to many clubs and religious institutions, fashionable boutiques and restaurants and it is within walking distance of the Plaza office district.

It is just to the east of the very dramatic Beaux Arts townhouse at 123 East 63rd Street that was erected in 1900 and designed by Trowbridge & Livingston. At the northeast Park Avenue corner at one end of this block is the very attractive Third Church of Christ Scientist that was completed in 1924 to designs by Delano & Aldich with its tall and delicate lantern cupola.
