Carter Horsley's Building Review Carter Horsley
Dec 23, 2011
78 CITYREALTY RATING

Carter's Review

The quite attractive, 21-story, red-brick building at 50 East 79th Street on the southeast corner at Madison Avenue has one of the choicest locations on the Upper East Side, close to many major museums and world-famous boutiques and art galleries.

The building has considerable light and air and many good views because the block across Madison Avenue consists of many distinguished, low-rise townhouses.

This 95-unit building was erected in 1958 and designed by Brown & Guenther.

It was converted to a cooperative in 1963.

Bottom Line

Madison Avenue here is a stroller's delight with excellent bus transportation and one of the city's finest public schools, PS 6, is two blocks to the north on the avenue and Central Park is just a few mansions away.

Description

The top of the building has many angled terraces that give the building a nice form.  The roof-top water tank enclosure is very attractive and the building has a two-story polished gray granite base.
