Carter's Review
One of the city's nicest white-brick apartment houses, this 21-story building has a superb location in the midst of one of the avenue's more open areas. It is just to the north of one of the avenue's more celebrated townhouses, the long and narrow Georgian-style building at 602 Park Avenue, whose "for sale" vacancy for many years, despite being an elegant showcase for major interior designer shows, was one of the city's more unusual anachronisms.Erected in 1954, this 105-unit building was designed by Sylvan Bien and was converted to a cooperative in 1981.Its symmetrical façade has many broad picture windows and several terraces and the building has a very elegant and large lobby. Most of the building's large corner balconies have been glass-enclosed over the years. The low-rise structures in the area provide this building with more open views than most Park Avenue addresses. The surrounding sidestreets are among the loveliest in the city and the location is one of the most desirable in the world with many chic restaurants and boutiques nearby.
