The building is an architectural masterpiece designed by Rosario Candela in 1929 and converted to a cooperative by John D. Rockefeller Jr., who resided in the building for many years.

The penthouse underwent a two year renovation overseen by architect Oscar Shamamian and world-renowned designer Michael Smith.
