When he designed 770 Park Avenue, which was finished in 1930, Rosario Candela was at the height of his career.

There is little in the way of either detail or comfort that did not go into the interior spaces of the 19-story 770 Park Avenue, which is located on the corner of 73rd Street. The original 35 duplex units all feature the best of what has become standard Candela fare. Majestic proportions, herringbone floors, exquisite molding, soaring ceilings, Palladian arches and sweeping staircases are an integral part of the design. Born in Sicily, Candela came to the United States in 1909 and graduated from the Columbia School of Architecture in 1915. His other famous buildings include 834 and 960 Fifth Avenue, 720, 740, 775 and 778 Park Avenue, and 19 East 72nd Street, all considered among the most glamorous addresses in the city."
