Carter's Review

This handsome 16-story complex at 110 and 118 Riverside Drive was erected in 1929 and was converted to a cooperative in 1968.  It has a total of 169 apartments.    It was designed by Gronenberg & Leuchtag, whose other buildings in the city include 50 Riverside Drive, 235, 467 and 639 Central Park West, and 130 and 315 West 86th Street.    There is excellent cross-town bus service nearby on 86th Street at Broadway and the building is across from Riverside Park and is convenient to some excellent retail including Harry's Shoes, Barnes & Nobles, and Zabar's.    Babe Ruth was once a resident.

Bottom Line

A gracious, pre-war co-operative in a fine Upper West Side location with an impressive lobby with a fireplace and large apartments.

Description

The orange-brick building, which has a slightly angled corner at 83rd Street, has a thin bandcourse above its second floor and another above the 13th floor.

There are attractive decorative window surrounds on the third and the 13th floors and a discrete cornice.

The building has a canopied entrance with an attractive arched surround, sconces and sidewalk landscaping on the side-street.

It has inconsistent fenestration and permits window air-conditioners.

The building has a very handsome paneled lobby that is steps up from the vestibule and it has a fireplace and stained glass windows.

Amenities

The building has a full-time doorman, a live-in superintendent, a gym, a bicycle room, a laundry and permits cats and dogs.
