Carter's Review

This attractive, 14-story, pre-war apartment building at 255 West End Avenue between 71st and 72nd Streets was erected in 1917 and converted to a co-operative in 1984.  It has 58 apartments.

Bottom Line

A pleasant pre-war at an excellent location on West End Avenue, half a block from Riverside Drive and a block-and-a-half from the express subway station at Broadway.

Description

The reddish-brown-brick building has a nice two-story entrance surround with a canopy, slightly inset windows, stringcourses above the second and fourth and 13th floors and bandcourses above the third and 12th floors and two-story window surrounds on the top two floors. The fourth-floor windows have attractive stone window surrounds beneath circular stone ornaments.

It also has a “broken” roof line and decorative spandrel elements above the 4th, 5th, 7th, and 9th floors.

Amenities

The building has a part-time doorman, a live-in superintendent, a laundry, a bicycle room and a storage room and a laundry room.  It permits pets.

Apartments

Penthouse C is a two-bedroom duplex with an entry foyer on the lower level that leads to a 19-foot-long living room with a staircase and a 10-foot-wide kitchen and a bedroom and on the upper level a 16-foot-long bedroom with a 750-square-foot terrace.

Apartment 13CD is a three-bedroom unit with a 12-foot-long entry foyer that leads past an 8-foot-long kitchen with a pass-through to the 18-foot-long living room and a 19-foot-long dining room.

Apartment 10B is a two-bedroom unit with an entry foyer that leads to a 17-foot-long living room and an 11-foot-long kitchen.

Apartment 8a is a two-bedroom unit that has a 10-foot-wide entry foyer that leads to a 20-foot-long living room.
